The uncontrollable excitement and eagerness of a new Apprentice always makes Adderfur smile, his whiskers twitching as he watched Sparrowpaw. In a way, he saw himself in the tom, so certain he would be the greatest Warrior to ever have lived, though Adderfur's motive came from his father's own reputation, and how he was certain he would be a better Warrior than the large tom. However, it puzzled him where the young tabby found his own drive to become a good Warrior. Though most Apprentices were normally like this on their first couple of days training, Sparrowpaw's determination had stuck with him almost an entire moon. Maybe he sought to prove that he could be strong despite being born a barn cat, a half blood, born to a loner. Whatever it was, there was no way Adderfur was going to deter his eagerness, so he offered the young tom a small piece of advice. "I'm sure you will, but being the best hunter or Warrior can come with many sacrifices, and you must be a determined hard worker to make it there."
Finally turning and making his way out of the entrance, he quickly made his way to the hollow, knowing he had to hurry so he could use every heart beat of the day that was left to make up for the hours already lost. He was confident the young tom would be able to keep up with him, as he had been doing so basically every step from the Warrior's den to the exit of the Camp, so he didn't hold back his pace.
Finally reaching the Hollow, the tom skillfully leaped down to the bottom, dust spraying up around his paws. He paced forward before twisting around, his long tail sweeping behind him as his eyes landed on his Apprentice. "Young 'paw, tell me- What would a Warrior first do whilst searching for a kill?" He questioned, sitting down before neatly wrapping his tail around his paws.
He answered the question himself before he heard a response from the Apprentice. Quiet his pace and scent the air. He didn't expect Sparrowpaw to answer exactly the way he had in his mind, but he figured he would get close if he didn't jump the gun and burst out a stupid answer without thinking.dappletail

Sparrowpaw's wide grin stayed on his face throughout the whole trek, and, even as his lungs started to ache, he kept running. He wasn't prepared for the massive dip of the sandy hollow in front of him, he never was. As his mentor managed the distance with one leap, he took the safe route, fixing his claws on a root sticking out of the side of the hollow before landing on all fours near his mentor, sand cascading around him like the water after a fish had leaped out. "Be quiet, and sniff the air for prey. If they smell anything, they go where the wind blows their scent away from the prey!"

Adderfur was already expecting his Apprentice to get the answer somewhat correct on his first try, nevertheless he was still impressed by the tom's ability to get the answer spot on right away while also adding the information about avoiding stalking with the wind, as to not let your prey detect you. "Very good." He blinked at his Apprentice, clearly satisfied. "Would you like to demonstrate the hunting crouch for me." Though it was worded as a question, he made it out as an order, and he expected Sparrowpaw to try even if he wasn't sure how to preform the hunting move. He took a moment to observe his surroundings, moistening his tongue and mouth, before taking a few deep breaths, relishing in the fact that he got to live in this great forest, with the bravest and most skilled Warriors in all of the clans. He almost purred, but he caught himself just in time, clearing his throat instead before returning his attention to his Apprentice to view his stance. dappletail,

Sparrowpaw nodded eagerly and did his best crouch. He lowered his body to the ground, his forelegs resting on the ground, and his hindquarters high in the air, long tail sticking up like a flag. The tom's eyes were fixed on the forest ahead, but his ears were turned to his mentor, waiting to hear his comment on the hunting move. He had truly never been taught how to do the move, but he had seen plenty of the apprentices in camp, showing off their crouches, pretending to pounce on a leaf, boasting about how they would be the best hunters ever. Back in the barn, "hunting" was a more relative term, most often referring to lazily putting a paw on a and lifting it into your mouth. The tabby had always wondered why the clan cats never visited the barn. In the colder moons, prey was more than plentiful there. Instead, they scrounged for the skinny wrens and shrews that the forest had to offer.

Adderfur watched curiously, maybe even intently, as Sparrowpaw lowered into the classic hunting crouch. This was his first Apprentice after-all, and he wanted to take Sparrowpaw's training more seriously than the eager young male himself. Assessing the young tom's stance didn't take nearly as much thinking as he thought it might, as he was able to quickly spot out all of the flaws in his position. He couldn't help but feel slightly disappointed, but he reminded himself that the cat hadn't been taught first hand how to preform the action correctly, though if he was being honest with himself- Sparrowpaw looked more like a dog than a hunting cat.
"Good," He meowed, his voice smooth as he approached the cat smaller cat. "However, hunting like that will get very tiring very fast. You rump is far too high in the air Sparrowpaw, and your tail must be only less than a kitten-step off the ground."
The brown tabby gestured with his tail as he urged Sparrowpaw to correct himself, gently running his own tail along the tabby tom's, which stood erect to let any in sight know he was approaching. He then cupped the tom's front paws with his long, feathery tail- "And tuck your front paws almost directly under your chest, you'll need to keep all of you paws close to you while stalking, do the same for your hind paws and you'll be golden."
He watched the tom fix his posture if he was sure to do so, further correcting any other mistakes he might've displayed, before he made his way over to where he had previously stood. Adderfur then spoke again, his head almost higher than his tail as he further instructed the apprentice, restricting his lips from curving into a smile. He couldn't help but be proud of the fact that he was now a mentor, free to bestow the knowledge swelling in his broad chest onto the young tom to further aid his great Clan in maintaining the rep for greatest hunters in the forest. Eyes shinning, he continued on. "Now, unless you happen to have any questions, I would like you to begin stalking. Keep quiet but remember- you must also be swift to land the kill with no trouble." dappletail,
